The passing of JBJ

It is rather sad indeed that Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam passed away on 30 September 2008.

The amount of tribute to him is overwhelming. As always some online commentators used the event of a good man’s passing to criticize the ruling party, while others praised his efforts.

I bumped into him several times. Outside Centrepoint and City Hall. He was always sharp and had something interesting to say. I don’t think I necessarily agree with everything he said, but in the spirit of Voltaire he definitely had a right to say it.

I don’t think there is much I can say to praise the man, because his actions speak for themselves. Not too many people would discount the contributions he has made to our political discourse.

It is a sad moment in our recent political history that one of the lions of our opposition has passed.
